Acoustics Central is an acoustics consultancy specializing in Environmental Acoustics, Architectural Acoustics, Building Services Noise Control and Industrial Acoustics
From Environmental Statement Chapters for large residential / mixed-use developments and noise impact assessments for large industrial uses / distribution centres, to planning reports for the installation of a condensing unit, we provide all the acoustics related planning services you require.
From acoustic design of the building envelope, internal separating elements and surface finishes, to full assessments of mechanical services systems, we carry out all aspects of building acoustic design. Our extensive experience extends across many building uses, both new construction and refurbishment.
We carry out a variety of services during the construction phase such as noise and vibration monitoring, construction detail reviewing, site inspections and accredited acoustic testing for Building Regulations or BREEAM.
We provide tailored services to support those trying to deal with acoustic issues, such as identifying and mitigating noise and vibration problems, carrying out Noise at Work assessments, and helping to address issues with acoustic privacy for example.
Who We Are
Derek Nash
Managing Director
Derek has been an acoustics consultant for over 18 years, working initially at Cole Jarman before founding Acoustics Central in 2012.
Derek holds a bachelor’s degree in Audio Technology, a Master’s degree in Environmental Acoustics, and is a Chartered Engineer.
Derek works regularly on a variety of project types, including mechanical services noise, architectural acoustic design, and environmental impact assessments undertaken as part of residential, educational, commercial, and healtcare developments.
Derek serves on several Institute of Acoustics committees, and is currently a board member of the Association of Noise Consultants.
Andy Emery
After gaining more than 15 years’ experience in the acoustics industry Andy joined Acoustics Central in 2022. He holds a MEng degree in Acoustical Engineering from the University of Southampton (ISVR) and is a member of the Institute of Acoustics (IoA).
He has undertaken assessment work in support of numerous planning applications for noise sensitive and noise generating development and has prepared noise chapters for Environmental Statements submitted with planning applications for large scale development. He has extensive experience in building acoustics and mechanical services noise assessments for new build and conversions schemes across various building types, including residential, education and further education, student accommodation, offices, hotels and places of worship.
Lee Montague
Lee has been an acoustics consultant for over 16 years after graduating from the University of Southampton. Lee holds a bachelor’s of engineering degree in Acoustical Engineering and is a member of the Institute of Acoustics.
Lee trained and developed at the highly regarded Cole Jarman (later RSK Acoustics), starting as a Graduate Engineer and progressing to Associate Director prior to leaving. In October 2022, Lee joined Acoustics Central as a Director as part of the further development of the Company.
Lee has expertise in all areas of acoustics, has presented at planning appeal hearings, planning committees, and has undertaken a number of expert witness legal cases (both commercial and domestic nuisance).
Matthew Heyes
Matthew has been working in the acoustics industry for over 14 years and was a Director at RSK Acoustics before joining Acoustics Central as a Director in 2022.
He has considerable planning experience, and has undertaken numerous assessments for new logistics sites, large and small residential schemes, and mechanical services assessments for various restaurants and takeaways. Matthew has successfully defended his assessment work at planning appeals and hearings by providing expert witness testimony for both residential and logistics sites.
Matthew also works on architectural acoustic projects from the design of schools, offices and residential tower blocks through to high performance TV recording studios and cinemas.
